Whilst both teams compete in similar sports and represent our wonderful country, there is something that really touches me about the Paralympics.
You see, I was lucky enough to attend the London 2012 Paralympic games and I can honestly say that before I did, I'd never really paid much attention to them. But I will now be forever grateful that I was able to go, even if it was just for one day.
"I couldn't believe the strength, determination and courage of some of these amazing athletes!"
Although I love the Olympics (and if you receive our newsletter or marketing emails, you'll already know that), the Paralympics, to me, will always be far more impressive. The things these athletes can do while battling with complications that can sometimes make their jobs seem almost impossible really inspires me and reminds me that if people are able to Long Jump blind or succeed at Armless Archery, then I too can do anything I set my mind to.
I often find that it's becoming increasingly common for people these days to brush off the thought of doing certain things with the excuse that ''it's just too much trouble'', however, there are a few things in life and in business that we are unable to do, no matter the difficulties we may face along the way.
One key ingredient, however, is to have a great team alongside you. Not necessarily employees, as you may operate as a one-man band, but a support network of people that you trust for help and advice. Paralympians have to trust their coaches, even more so in events like the Blind Long Jump where they rely on sounds created by others to guide them towards the pit and to tell them when to jump.
"Trust me here, if you haven't seen it, watch it, because it's incredible!"
So, just a short blog post today, to remind you that although sometimes it may feel as if there is no way to overcome certain challenges, there often is; it just takes a little time and reflection to figure out the solution. Work with a team that supports you understands you and is working towards the same goal as you, and you'll be unstoppable!
I recently graduated from Leeds Beckett University with a degree in Sports Marketing. Throughout my studies, I worked as a part-time waitress at Pizza Hut before graduating and starting my role as Marketing Genie here at The Office Genie.
Entering and adapting to the full-time working world has allowed me to learn so much, overcome all sorts of new challenges and do things I never thought I could do. Working in marketing ensures there is never a dull day as one minute I might be organising an event and the next I could be out networking with potential clients.
Outside of work my main passion is football. I have played since the age of 11 and am currently a goalkeeper for a local team. I also love spending time with my friends and family, going on holiday and seeing theatre shows and concerts.
