iPhone Call Forwarding And The Secrets Of The GSM Code

iPhone call forwarding isn't a simple as flicking a switch in settings. By default, it will forward unanswered or unavailable calls to your voicemail, but what if you want it to go to a call answering service instead?
iPhone call forwarding is easy once you know how to do it!

Well, that's where GSM codes come in. All networks in the UK are GSM networks which means that you can enter certain codes and change things about your phone connection to the network.
"And the most important one for a business owner is call forwarding!"
So there are four types of call forwarding. All calls, busy, not answered or unavailable. iOS on the iPhone allows you to forward all calls to another number, but it doesn't have an interface for busy, not answered or unavailable.
How do you enable these features then? Use the following conditional call forwarding codes:
Call forward if busy - *67**11#
Call forward if not answered - *61**11*15#
Call forward if unreachable - *62**11#
Just enter the code, and hit the call button.
The first number, for example 67, is the service you want, then you enter the number to forward too. The 11 means 'voice' so all voice calls get forwarded. On the not answered line, the 15 means, wait for 15 seconds before forwarding.
To deactivate the forwarding is even easier:
Cancel call forward if busy - #67#
Cancel call forward if not answered - #61#
Cancel call forward if unreachable - #62#
You do not need to remember all these codes. Say, you usually use 'call forward if busy', just save the number as a new contact.
Next time, when you need to activate call forwarding, just look up that contact and dial the number. The same goes for deactivating the forwarding. If you add all the forwarding options to your phone favourites, they'll all be easily found.
You would have thought there would be loads of call forwarding apps in the Apple AppStore, but beyond those that generate the codes for you to enter manually into the phone, there's nothing.
And it doesn't look like the up and coming iOS12 will have it baked in either! So, GSM code strings, saved as contacts and added to your phone favourites is the way to go for now.

I had a successful 20-year career as an office manager and personal assistant; however, my job was no longer focused on the customers and became all about the numbers. My customer-focused background began when I was 12 in my father's independent carpet showroom. I had a spell with Marks & Spencer before I moved into office-based jobs.
