From Marketing Books To Marketing A Call Handling Business
My First Week As a Genie ...
POSTED BY JACQUI FROST ON 02/07/2015 @ 9:00AM
After a focused hunt, I'm really pleased to introduce our brand new Marketing Genie! Charlotte is tasked with all things marketing and after the first impression she's made, I'm confident she'll do a great job. Here's what Charlotte had to say about her first week at Genie Towers ...
Besides marketing, Football is my passion. Can you guess which one I am?
The thought of entering the world of work and getting my first ever graduate job always scared me, but Jacqui and the team have been so welcoming and friendly that I don't know why I ever worried about it!
"My first week here at The Office Genie has been a great one, very exciting and very different to anything else I've ever done!"
And here's why: for the past 5 years I've effectively been doing the exact same thing - spending every day in education and every evening at work, so it's so exciting to finally be doing something new!
I got my first job at Pizza Hut when I was 16 and it was the perfect student job - it offered me flexible hours, valuable work experience and many fantastic friends. Similarly, attending University allowed me to gain independence, manage my finances and most importantly, learn how to cook!
I attended Leeds Metropolitan University and my choice to study Sports Marketing was due to my passion for sport and my continuous intrigue into the world of advertising and PR, but after just one week here at The Office Genie, I'm beginning to understand why experience in the real world is considered just as, if not more important, than having an undergraduate degree.
I knew the shift from University to the real world wouldn't be an easy one, and the transition from theoretical to practical is harder than I could have ever imagined, which is why I was keen to work for a business that prioritises their training - and I couldn't have picked a better place!
On my third day here, I was given the opportunity to attend a training day where I met so many interesting people and learnt so much valuable information that I was able to bring back and apply straight away.
In my first few days here I was already trusted to proofread blog posts and work on The Office Genie social media pages, whilst slowly beginning to learn all I need to know from the huge stack of marketing material we have in-house.
Already I am beginning to understand more about how a business works and how my job as the Marketing Genie plays a crucial part. I know this may sound like I'm 'all work and no play' but that's not the case!
Even though I'm now in full time employment, I'm not ready to give up my student life just yet, so the majority of my weekends will be spent on either the dancefloor or visiting my friends, with the odd nap thrown in for good measure!
"But the main way I relax and get my mind off work is through Football!"
Standing at 5ft 2", I play in the one position that you'd least expect - in goal! But it's been that way for as long as I can remember. After playing for my local Sunday league team, I then progressed and played for MK Dons Ladies for two wonderful seasons.
Unfortunately, I suffered a serious knee injury that required two operations and a whole lot of physio to fix, but now, four years on, I'm back playing locally and am enjoying it as much as I ever did!
So along with my football, the odd holiday and spending time with my friends, I am so excited to continue my learning and embark upon new experiences alongside the other Genies; it really does feel as though they've granted my wish of getting the perfect graduate job!
As you can see, Charlotte is a fantastic asset to the Genie team. Which is a good job as she has important work to do! Here at Genie Towers we know the positive difference a professional Call Handling service can make to busy business owners.
"And that's why we want more people to benefit from the great service we offer!"
And with new Genie Charlotte's dedication, ideas and enthusiasm spreading our message far and wide, I'm excited about the greater impact my team will now have.
My team of Office Genies love to get a busy business owner organised and back in control. So whether you want to outsource your inbound Call Handling, your diary management, your travel arrangements, invoicing, credit control, or something else (yes, even marketing), we'd be happy to have a chat and discuss the possibilities. Just give us a quick call on 01604 529170.
Until next time ...
THE OFFICE GENIE
I had a successful 20-year career as an office manager and personal assistant; however, my job was no longer focused on the customers and became all about the numbers. My customer-focused background began when I was 12 in my father's independent carpet showroom. I had a spell with Marks & Spencer before I moved into office-based jobs. I have worked as a training administrator, a PA and PA/office manager in a variety of industries from manufacturing to the IT education sector.
Meanwhile, my husband Ian, a successful Northampton based Master Decorator and owner of Rainbow Frost, was losing out on work due to missed phone calls. When he was busy, callers were getting his voicemail but weren't leaving messages. I knew how to fix that problem!
I quit my job and took on Ian as the first client of The Office Genie in November 2005. Word quickly spread with the second client coming on board just one week later. The majority of our clients since have come to us through word of mouth recommendations and networking referrals. Over the years, I have become well connected in Northampton and Milton Keynes.
Outside of work I enjoy swimming, roller skating, the theatre and my cats and dogs!
