British households received over 2.2billion nuisance calls last year! Can you believe that? Over two billion unwanted calls from PPI firms, ambulance chasers, pensions and insurance companies ... not to mention the scam calls.

And that means we miss the calls we actually want. Many older people don't want to call mobile phones so our parents, being old school and used to landlines, call and call and call and get upset with their kids when they don't get answered.
TalkTalk commissioned a survey of 2,000 adults. According to their research, a third of people missed key calls from friends and family because they were trying to avoid scammers.
Some 20% of those surveyed missed calls from work, 15% from their children's school and one in 20 respondents said they even missed a call from a long-lost love they thought had gone forever. Oh dear.
As the Telephone Preference Service gets largely ignored by unscrupulous firms and scammers, many landline providers are now introducing number barring. Some will only allow calls to your landline from numbers you've already dialled.
So there are moves afoot to try and counter the onslaught of nuisance calls, but I do wonder if the death of the landline is upon us? Are we just going to use our mobile phones and need to make the effort to call out loved ones regularly so they don't worry?

I had a successful 20-year career as an office manager and personal assistant; however, my job was no longer focused on the customers and became all about the numbers. Meanwhile, my husband Ian, a successful Northampton based Master Decorator and owner of Rainbow Frost, was losing out on work due to missed phone calls. When he was busy, callers were getting his voicemail but weren't leaving messages. I knew how to fix that problem!
