Business networking, whether formal or informal, is undoubtedly a great place to promote your business. Gaining associates and contacts increases the likelihood of getting referrals which increases your chance of making sales ...
Giving a referral at a business networking event often encourages the person to offer you one back!
If you're yet to attend a networking group then I can't recommend enough that you go and try it out. The chances of you meeting someone that knows someone that could benefit from buying from you is sky high!
"My first business networking event was back in June of last year, shortly after I had joined The Office Genie!"
I got started with informal business networking events so that there was little pressure and I was not asked to stand and up and talk in front of 20+ business owners. This offered me the chance to build my confidence and test my knowledge of The Office Genie.
Unsure of how I would find the experience I came back having loved it. I had got to meet so many possible clients and suppliers, many of whom I still regularly contact.
A few weeks later I tried my hand at formal networking. After a day of worrying, I had finally perfected my speech and was excited (yet very nervous) to give it a go. Turns out, I loved it even more than informal networking! I found the structure meant that the discussions were more focused on what you wanted to gain from the meeting and that a much larger proportion of networkers were passing referrals.
Now, many months on and I have finally joined my local BNI group where I have met a number of different business owners and employees who have now become not just business contacts, but also, my friends.
Attending the weekly meetings and training events ensures I am well prepared, understand what is expected of me and is a great way for me to develop my skills and expertise. Not to mention the amount of business that has been tossed my way because of it!
Remember that when someone is looking for a particular trade or service, a recommendation from someone they know, like and trust goes a lot further than picking someone from The Yellow Pages. One of the most interesting things someone once told me at a BNI meeting was that "if you're advertising, you're looking for business" and where better to look for business than in a room packed full of business owners?
Formal business networking that is attended week in week out by the same people means that your business now has an extra 25+ people hunting for opportunities for you. Just as I now have 25+ businesses to spot opportunities for. Giving a referral often encourages the person you referred to offer you one back, once again increasing the conversions in your business.
So if you're yet to get out there and get networking, I can't recommend enough how important it is to push yourself out of your comfort zone and go along to some local events. I can vouch that the Nuovo Networking Lunch and FSB offer fantastic opportunities in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, so there's no need to worry!
"Remember, if you're advertising, you're looking for business, so go and get it, before someone else does!"
If you are however interested in visiting a BNI meeting, I would love nothing more than to take you along as a visitor and show you exactly what it is I'm raving about, so please do get in contact if you're interested in trying it.
Until next time ...
